Flow, Heal, and Groove: AfroYoga Wednesdays at Queermunity

AfroYoga takes participants through a sequence of yoga flows blended with dance moves designed to get folks in tune with their body’s natural rhythm and tap into the healing properties of breath linked with movement.

The practice is suitable for all levels of experience, and everybody is welcome. Kenna has extensive experience meeting people where they are, safely modifying movements for different bodies, and creating a safe and equitable space to learn and grow.

At Queermunity the hour-long AfroYoga class will be offered on Wednesdays at two times 12 and 4:30. Yoga mats and other props will be provided, wear comfy clothes for movement and rolling on the floor, socks are not recommended (bare feet work best).

What to expect: As you enter, a relaxing tone will be set in the space with lighting and sound.  Class begins with intuitive movement and meditation and then moves through a series of guided flows that include Yoga postures and movement prompts. We round out the practice with some balance and held postures that provide a deep stretch. Time for rest and a final meditation using the Melanated Remedy affirmation deck is how the class ends. It's important to allow time to transition in and out of the space and save loud convos for a different time or a lobby space. The soundtrack will consist of powerful, intentional music that spans a wide spectrum of Black creativity.

*Advanced registration is required. Each class reserves 2 spots for free entry for BIPOC participants. To claim a reserved spot, email contact@queermunitymn.com. This practice is open to everyone who can participate in a respectful, culturally competent manner.
